The Hoover Grille Story

On January 31st, 2006, the doors to Hoover Grille were openned for the first time, an accomplishment that marked the successful completion of years of preparation and planning that began with a very simple dream in the mind of owner Rick Beck. It all started with a visit to Orlando, Florida, where he stumbled upon a small waterfront diner. The food, the atmosphere, the view were unlike anything his hometown of Westerville had to offer.

For fifteen years, Rick drove past the Hoover Reservoir on his way to work. A house stood right next to the water, and he couldn't help but imagine a small diner fitting perfectly in that locale. When no one else jumped at the opportunity, Rick decided to pursue the dream for himself. After obtaining use of the property, Rick brought together investors and a design team and began the process of bringing the vision into reality.

The initial idea was to convert the home into a diner. When this proved impossible, the architects went to work on a totally new layout, the result of which is what you see today - a structure roughly three times the size of the original concept, accented by flowing curves, tall ceilings and amazing views of the waterfront. The only thing remaining from the original building is a small Buddha statue that once rested on the back porch of the home, which is now seated just outside the patio enjoying the view.

When it came to the concept of the Hoover Grille's menu, the owners realized that the ambiance could easily lend itself to a fine dining establishment. However, they instead chose to offer a more casual menu, allowing patrons to visit several times a week. Thanks to the creative vision of our kitchen team, regular guests can come back time and time again to satisfy their taste buds with elegant yet inexpensive items, including a wide variety of rotating features, complemented by a unique assortment of wines, beers, and mixed drinks.
